Project Description

What's New

The Myrtlewood Field Office, Coos Bay District Bureau of Land Management (BLM), prepared the Baker’s Dozen Timber Management Environmental Assessment (EA) (https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2038937/510 ), of which the Eckley Empanada Timber Sale is a component. The BLM analyzed the effects of conducting regeneration harvest and commercial thinning treatments within the Baker’s Dozen Project Area, as well as analysis of a No Action Alternative.

I am choosing Alternative 4 of the Baker’s Dozen Timber Management EA to advertise for auction and sale of the Eckley Empanada Timber Sale. This alternative will best address the purpose and need for action (EA pp. 5–8) and complies with the resource management direction identified in the ROD/RMP (pp. 59–63).

The Eckley Empanada Timber Sale treatment areas consist of 75 acres of commercial thinning in the HLB, 14 acres of commercial thinning in the Outer RR, and 16 acres of regeneration harvest within the HLB. The BLM will harvest a total volume of approximately 1.8 million board feet (MMbf) of timber.

This decision may be appealed to the Interior Board of Land Appeals (IBLA), Office of Hearings
and Appeals, in accordance with the regulations contained in 43 CFR Part 4. Any appeal must be
filed within 30 days after the date of receiving notice of this decision. Any notice of appeal must be filed with IBLA and must include a copy of the decision being appealed, a statement of standing, and a statement of timeliness. This would be February 23, 2026.
