The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) published on July 27, 2020, in the Federal Register a notice of availability for the Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan and the Record of Decision and Approved Forest Plan Amendment for the Browns Canyon National Monument. The decision documents are available to view or download from the Documents page (see navigation links on the left).  The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) decision can also be downloaded from the USFS website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=51098. This interagency cooperative resource management plan and plan amendment will manage, into the future, the many resources the monument has to offer.

A story map of the Approved RMP is also available here: https://blm-egis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=bfa742dd8c6d4a098fbfb78be6cc5426 .

The agencies would like to convey their heartfelt thanks to all the partners, local government officials, stakeholders, contractors, and members of the public who contributed time and energy to this project. This plan is truly reflective of the amazing and unique place that Browns Canyon is and will remain, thanks to the work of all involved.

The Browns Canyon National Monument was established by presidential proclamation under the Antiquities Act on February 19, 2015. The monument covers 21,604 acres of scenic and diverse natural resources along the upper Arkansas River of Colorado and encompasses both BLM and U.S. Forest Service lands.

Browns Canyon National Monument includes the Arkansas River Special Recreation Management Area, the Browns Canyon Wilderness Study Area, the Browns Canyon Area of Critical Environmental Concern, and U.S. Forest Service roadless areas. In addition, a portion of the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, a cooperative management area along the Arkansas River administered by the USFS, the BLM, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife, is included.
