Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area (D-E NCA) proposes to acquire the 4,060-acre Escalante Ranch (Ranch), an inholding of non-Federal parcels of private land and interests in land that lies within the designated boundaries of D-E NCA along Escalante Creek and the Gunnison River. Approximately 2,180 acres of the Ranch are within Delta County and another 1,880 acres are within Mesa County. 

The Ranch would be purchased from a willing seller with funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The acquisition would be conducted in compliance with The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970, (P.L. 91-646) (42 U.S.C. 4601), as amended.  

If the acquisition is successful, the acquired lands and interests in lands would be managed consistent with the objectives of surrounding BLM-administered lands, per the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan (RMP).  

Post-acquisition, the BLM intends to invite robust community engagement, including through cooperating agency and public involvement, in the development of interim and long-term management plans for the acquired lands. During the interim- and long-term land use planning processes, BLM intends to review and analyze several issues noted during public scoping, including but not limited to: 

•	Recreation and travel management  
•	Grazing 
•	Agricultural use / irrigation 
•	Continued use and/or restoration of irrigated lands 
•	Aquatic species and habitat  
•	Cultural resource management 
•	Wildlife, including bighorn sheep
