What's New

BLM Posts Notice of Competitive Lease Sale for Four Parcels in the Canyon Country District.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office will post the proposed list of parcels for the upcoming quarterly competitive oil and gas lease sale on November 10, 2016.  The parcels are expected to be offered for competitive lease in March 23, 2017, however this is subject to change. Four parcels totalling 4175 acres will be offered for lease in the Canyon Country District area.  The sale will be conducted utilizing the EnergyNet internet-based auction system.   Additional details about the internet auction process are included in the November 2017 Notice of Competitive Lease Sale (NCLS), which can be found on this project page, under the "Documents" tab.  All 4 parcels are identified as available to oil and gas leasing under the current resource management plan.  More information about the parcels, including maps, the environmental assessment and unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact, are also located under the "Documents" and "Maps" tabs.

Notifications and updates to the sale schedule will also be posted on this webpage and announced through a press release.  A hard copy NCLS will also be posted in the BLM Utah State Office Public Room located on the fifth floor of the Gateway South Office Building 440 West 200 South, Salt Lake City.

This NCLS initiates a 30 day protest period.  All protests must be received no later than 4:30 p.m., Dec. 12, 2016.  Protests should be as specific as possible.  Those which contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process.  Protests may be mailed to the BLM-Utah State Office at 440 West 200 South, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, or faxed to the attention of Sheri Wysong at (801) 539-4237.  For information on how to file a timely protest, please refer to the NCLS.  Hard copies of the NCLS may also be obtained in person from the BLM-Utah State Office Public Room.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Canyon Country District (Moab and Monticello Field Offices) has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) to disclose and analyze the environmental consequences of the sale of six parcels, located within the Moab (two parcels, 3,347.04 acres) and Monticello (four parcels, 3,393.84 acres) FOs approximately 6,740.88 acres, during the February 2017 competitive oil and gas lease sale and subsequent lease issuance to successful bidders.  A preliminary list of the parcels can be found in the “Documents” Page.  As a result of this analysis process two  parcels (2566.42 acres) have been deferred.  BLM is posting the Notice of Competitive Lease Sale, which includes four parcels totalling 4174.46 acres.
