Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) proposes to formalize and improve the existing parking area at the Farnsworth Canyon Trailhead, which provides access to the OHV singletrack Orange Trail. The project will clearly delineate the informal parking area, guide visitors on where the OHV open route ends and the OHV limited route begins and share information about the adjacent wilderness. Work includes installing route and educational signage and enclosing the parking area with up to 850 feet of post and cable fencing (approx. 36 inches high). A width restricting feature (approximately 40 inches wide) will be placed at the trail entrance to accommodate full size dirt bikes while preventing access by vehicles exceeding the motorized single track width limitation. Total disturbance within the parking area will not exceed 1 acre.

BLM will use the NEPA public participation process to satisfy the public involvement requirements under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (54 U.S.C. § 306108) and pursuant to 36 C F R 800.2(d)(3). The information about cultural resources within the area potential affect for this undertaking will assist the BLM in identifying and evaluating effects/impacts to such resources in the context of both NEPA and Section 106 of the NHPA.
