Project Description

The BLM St. George Field Office (SGFO) is considering whether to approve an application for groundwater study observation wells Right-of-Way (ROW) on BLM-administered lands Washington County, UT (see map below).  This ROW is the efforts to meet the increasing water demand in Washington County.  These observation wells will allow WCWCD to study groundwater use in the Gunlock area and define and quantify the sustainable yield of the Gunlock wellfield, providing essential information for best management of the water supply. 

 

WCWCD (applicant) has applied for four observation water well small site ROWs are just south of Gunlock Reservoir.  All of these sites that have been applied for are located in already established ROWs in the area.  Each well pad will be 4 feet by 4 feet in size.  All four sites will cover less than 0.1 acres in the combined area.  The data collected from these sites will support water supply reliability, management of water deliveries, drought management, conjunctive use of surface groundwater, water rights administration, and watershed health.
