Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting a wild horse drive trap gather within the Bible Spring Complex, located about 35 miles northwest of Cedar City in Iron and Beaver Counties, Utah. In coordination with the gather, BLM is proposing to temporarily close public lands within the Blawn Wash Herd Area (HA), and Four Mile, Bible Spring, and Tilly Creek Herd Management Areas (HMAs) and surrounding area, of the Bible Spring Complex, pursuant to the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLMPA), as amended, and 43 CFR §8364.1. The BLM has determined that temporary closure of the affected land is necessary to conduct safe, efficient, and successful wild horse gather operations while ensuring proper care and treatment of all animals gathered.

The temporary closure would apply to a 2 mile radius surrounding active wild horse trap locations and holding facilities within and around the Bible Spring Complex while gather operations are conducted. All forms of public access and entry would be prohibited within an identified 2-mile area around any active trap site and holding facilities during gather operations, though essential gather operation personnel and any public observers who are properly escorted by BLM personnel in accordance with BLM’s gather observation policies would be allowed in the closure area during operations.  BLM would notify the public about the location of temporary closures in accordance with 43 CFR 8364.1. Such notification would include the installation of signage within or near the temporary 2 mile closure area
