Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Richfield Field Office (RFO) and Moore Land & Livestock proposes to drill Well 91 and install a water tank and trough on the south side of Jeffrey Well Road, at the west boundary of the Pasture Canyon Allotment.  Moore Land & Livestock is the current permit holder of the Pasture Canyon Allotment grazing permit (located in Wayne County, 12 miles Northwest of Hanksville). The well project will be confined to the previously disturbed construction footprint of 1 acre that contained the original well and troughs. The old well will be filled and capped for safety reasons. This will consist of filling the old well shaft with cement and capping at ground level. 

The well project requires new infrastructure. This would include redrilling the well, installing a 10,000-gallon water tank, new trough, solar system to run the well pump, and a fence to enclose the well infrastructure. In addition, 400 feet of 2' pipe will be installed to a new trough on the Jeffery Well Allotment west of the well. The pipe will be buried 24” deep on the disturbed edge of Jeffrey Wells Road.

The BLM has a pending claim on the water right to Well 91 (95-3815). The original well was drilled in 1935 and had a windmill and a set of sheep troughs. The well stopped working 20+ years ago and today there is no reusable infrastructure on location. This well and water source will provide for livestock and wildlife to utilize both the Pasture Canyon and Jeffrey Wells allotments.
