Project Description

This Proposed Planning Analysis Amendment and environmental assessment (EA) details the BLM's plan for transferring eight public domain properties in the State of Michigan. The parcels have been managed by the U.S. Coast Guard and its predecessor agency the U.S. Lighthouse Service for lighthouse purposes for over a century. Technological improvements to the Coast Guard's aids to navigation, however, have rendered the lighthouses obsolete. 

The amendment proposes to transfer all eight properties based on a set of disposal criteria. It also evaluates generally the environmental impacts of such transfers. Site-specific impacts will be considered in EAs which will be prepared for each parcel after BLM receives detailed applications from the proposed recipients.
