Project Description

The Northwest Oregon District BLM proposes to fell, buck, and scale sample trees during fiscal years 2026 and 2027 to ensure the accuracy of timber sale cruises for future forest management actions. The process assists the BLM in accurately calculating volumes and may also help the BLM develop models for volume equations. Sample tree felling would occur with any cruise design method, especially in timber sales that have been cruised using the 3P cruising method, where there is a high degree of variability between the trees, or where the trees have a high amount of defect.

What's New

The Bureau of Land Management Northwest Oregon District issued a decision record on November 21, 2025 for a categorical exclusion to implement the sample tree felling program of work for fiscal years 2026-2027.
