Project Description

The Central Utah Project Completion Act (CUPCA) Office, established by Congress in 1992 and housed within the U.S. Department of the Interior, is requesting that the Secretary of the Interior extend the land withdrawal established by Public Land Order (PLO) No. 7668 (71 FR 42661), dated July 27, 2006. This order withdrew 6,450 acres of National Forest System (NFS) lands from location and entry under the United States mining laws to protect infrastructure associated with the Diamond Fork System, which conveys water from Strawberry Reservoir to Utah’s Wasatch Front. The system includes tunnels, pipelines, access roads, and other facilities critical to water delivery, hydroelectric power, and municipal supply. 
The proposed action is administrative in nature and would extend the existing withdrawal for an additional 20 years through the issuance of a new PLO by the Secretary, published in the Federal Register, pursuant to Section 204 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (43 U.S.C. § 1714). The lands have historically remained, and would continue to remain, open to all other uses permitted by law on National Forest System lands.
