Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will consider authorizing an amendment to the Tonopah Resource Management Plan (RMP) through the Land Use Plan Amendment (LUPA) process to adjust the Visual Resource Management (VRM) from Class III to Class IV, where necessary, and amend the RMP to allow solar energy development on lands sloped five percent or greater. The Six-Western States Solar Programmatic EIS Exclusion for slope greater than 5% will also be changed to be consistent with the Resource Management Plan. The EIS would further analyze generally the expected impacts from approximately 62,300 acres of solar development in the 118,600-acre analysis area and develop required future mitigation.

What's New

On October 9, 2025 the Bureau of Land Management, in agreement with the project developers, cancelled the EIS process for these projects.
