Project Description

The parking area on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) off Old Don Pedro Road provides visitor parking and access to trails in the Red Hills Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). This parking area is used by recreationists for parking vehicles and horse trailers, but the steeply sloped and narrow parking area has become badly eroded and is no longer conducive for parking. The BLM has also struggled to maintain the parking area to proper standards due to the steep slope the parking area is situated on.  

The BLM Mother Lode Field Office proposes to expand the parking area to the west, where the grade is flatter, reshaping the parking area, and creating better water runoff to enable easier parking for horse trailers and general recreation. 

Responsibilities under the National Historic Preservation Act for the proposed activity are complete.
