Project Description

What's New

Canyon Rims Travel Management Area

A public comment period on the Environmental Assessment will be held from October 14, 2020 to November 15, 2020.

March 9, 2020: As required in the Travel Management Settlement, the BLM is releasing its preliminary route evaluations, along with the Scoping Report, the draft Alternatives maps and the Baseline Monitoring Report.  All can be found under the "Documents" tab.

From August 5, 2019 to September 5, 2019, the Bureau of Land Management Moab Field Office sought coping comments on a proposed travel management plan to designate motorized routes in the Canyon Rims area south of Moab. These are summarized in the Scoping Report that can be found under the "Documents" tab.

The Canyon Rims Travel Management area covers approximately 90,954 acres of BLM managed lands in northern San Juan County, Utah.  The BLM has developed a map with existing route information regarding trails, routes, and roads within this area to assist with public feedback. Scoping comments should focus on developing a motorized transportation system for the Canyon Rims Travel Management Area. Multiple resources will be analyzed in relation to travel and transportation management, including recreation, cultural resources and Native American concerns, wildlife and fisheries habitat, soils and water quality, and wilderness characteristics. Additional information, issues, or resource concerns received during the Scoping Period will be used in developing an Environmental Assessment.  Scoping input is most effective when it provides unbiased information, evidence and other supporting additional documentation.

Currently, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Canyon Country District, Moab Field Office is developing a Travel Management Plan (TMP) for travel routes and route uses in the Canyon Rims Travel Management Area (TMA).This TMA covers approximately 90,954 acres of BLM managed land in portions of San Juan County, Utah. Plan expected to be complete on or before May 2021 as required by the 2017 settlement agreement. This area is referred to as the “Indian Creek Travel Management Area” in settlement.
