Project Description

The purpose of the Proposed Action (Alternative A) is to remove excess wild horses from the Antelope and Triple B Complexes, to bring both Complexes towards AML, and to restore a thriving natural ecological balance and multiple use relationship on the public lands consistent with the provisions of Section 1333(b) of the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act (WFRHBA).  Any wild horses located outside the HMAs (in areas not designated for their use) would also be removed.  

The need for the proposed action is to prevent unnecessary or undue degradation of the public lands and to protect rangeland resources from deterioration associated with excess populations of wild horses within the HMAs and use of rangeland resources by wild horses outside the HMA boundaries.

The Bureau of Land Management Elko District, Wells Field Office on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, issued the Decision Record and Finding of No Significant Impact for the Antelope and Triple B Complexes Wild Horse Gather Plan Environmental Assessment (DOI-BLM-NV-E030-2017-0010-EA) analyzing the environmental impacts associated with the proposed gather and removal, and fertility controls. The Antelope, Antelope Valley, Goshute, Maverick-Medicine, Spruce-Pequop, and Triple B Herd Management Areas (HMAs), collectively referred to as the Antelope and Triple B Complexes, are located 50 miles southeast of Elko, Nevada, in the southeastern portion of Elko County and northern portion of White Pine County.
