Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office (MFO) proposes to implement an invasive species removal and hazardous fuels reduction treatment on approximately 176 acres in San Juan County, Utah. The project area is located around Ken’s Lake on lands BLM-managed lands comprised of pinyon-juniper (PJ) woodlands, blackbrush, and riparian vegetation (see Attachment 1, Map 1). The Proposed Action would include 44.7 acres of whole tree tamarisk extraction and pile burning; 131.3 acres of hand cutting invasive species, herbicide application, and lop and scatter. The Proposed Action would reduce invasive species presents, improve water quantity, reduce soil salinity, and enhance recreation. Additionally, the Proposed Action would reduce hazardous fuels, decrease potential wildfire intensity, enhance firefighter and public safety, and protect nearby property and infrastructure.

What's New

BLM will use the NEPA public participation process to satisfy the public involvement requirements under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (54 U.S.C 306108) pursuant to 36 CFR 800.2(d)(3). The information about historic and cultural resources within the area of potential effect for this undertaking will assist the BLM in identifying and evaluating impacts to such resources in the context of both NEPA and Section 106 of the NHPA.
