Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is evaluating a proposed modification to the authorized Plan of Operations for the Bald Mountain Mine (BMM), referred to as the BMM Process, Casino, and Poker Modification Project (the Project). The proposed modification for the Project has been submitted by KG Mining (Bald Mountain) Inc. (KG-BM), the owner and operator of the BMM, an existing large-scale open-pit gold mining operation in the Bald Mountain Mining District in eastern Nevada. The mine is approximately 60 miles southeast of Elko, Nevada, and approximately 60 miles northwest of Ely, Nevada, within Elko and White Pine Counties. Mining activities occur primarily on lands administered by the BLM.

The Project proposes modifications to mining operations within the BMM Process, Casino, and Poker Flats Mine Areas as well as a reconciliation and reclassification spanning three additional mine areas previously analyzed and authorized under the Bald Mountain Mine Juniper Project Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (BLM 2024) through an amendment to the currently authorized Plan of Operations and Reclamation Permit (NVN-082888/Reclamation Permit Application No. 0025). This Project does not propose to expand the approved NOA Plan boundary or to extend mine life beyond the year 2040, the authorized mine life. Life-of-mine disturbance would increase from 14,937 acres to 15,131 acres, resulting in a net disturbance increase of approximately 218 acres. The Proposed Action is intended to allow continued mining by reconfiguring existing mine components to improve ore access, sequencing, and operational efficiency.
