The Coachella Valley Plan amends the Bureau of and Management (BLM) 1980 California Desert Conservation Area Plan. The Proposed Plan and Final Environmental Impact Statement 1) provides for multiple use and sustainable development of the public lands while making progress towards healthy, properly functioning ecosystems,2) provides for the recovery of federal and state listed species, 3) manages sensitive species to avoid future listing, 4) provides recreational opportunities on public lands, 5) makes available mineral and energy resources on public lands, and 6) facilitates land management consistency, management effectiveness, and cost efficiency across jurisdictional boundaries through collaboration with local governments of the Coachella Valley, State and other Federal agencies, Indian tribes, and private entities. The planning area is approximately 1.2 million acres of which 28 percent (about 337,000 acres) is managed by BLM.
