BLM issues Record of Decision on Harris Springs Recreation Area Management Plan

LAS VEGAS– The Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District issued a Decision Record and Finding of No Significant Impact based on analysis provided in the Harris Springs Recreation Area Management Plan and Environmental Assessment.

The plan guides future development and provides management direction for recreation resources within the Harris Springs area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area northwest of Las Vegas, south of Nevada State Route 157.

In 2013, the Carpenter I fire burned a large area of public land within the area. The result left an open area with little to no vegetation.

“There has been an exponential growth in activities in the area that have created disturbances causing damages to the natural resources that need to be addressed,” said Shedra Rakestraw, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant Manager. “This plan addresses recreational uses, designated and unauthorized roads, vegetation rehabilitation and informational kiosks and signage.”

Documents for the plan and environmental assessment are available at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2017352/510
