The BLM is seeking information from you, the public, about the project and the area, in a step called public scoping. The scoping period for the Oil and Gas Leasing RMPA will be active from September 3, 2026 to October 5, 2026. During this period, the public can identify potential resource issues, data for use in analysis, and alternatives to address the BLM purpose and need. The most useful scoping comments would answer the following questions:

• Are there other reasonable alternatives should the BLM consider to meet the purpose and need for action?
• What resources may be affected by the Plan Amendment and what are the potential impacts?
•          What environmental, economic, or other data should the BLM consider?
•          What relevant land uses, activities, or effects are occurring in the area?
•          What other people, groups, or agencies should the BLM consult with?

An open-house informational public meeting will be held at the BLM Vernal Field Office (170 South 500 East) on Tuesday September 22 from 1700 to 1900 (5PM to 7PM).

The BLM will use the information gathered from public scoping to create an Environmental Assessment that discloses effects from any alternatives analyzed in detail. After the BLM finalizes the Environmental Assessment, a decision will be prepared.
