BLM announces September 2025 sale of oil and gas leases in three eastern states

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – The Bureau of Land Management Eastern States State Office today announced an oil and gas lease sale scheduled for September 23, 2025, to offer five oil and gas parcels totaling 2,090 acres in Louisiana, Michigan, and Mississippi. 

The BLM completed scoping on the Louisiana and Michigan parcels in January 2025 and held a public comment period that closed June 23, 2025, on the parcels and the related environmental analyses. Scoping on the Mississippi parcels was completed in November 2023 and a public comment period closed December 29, 2023, on the parcels and the related environmental analysis. 

The Notice for the September 2025 Lease Sale can be found at the bottom of this webpage. A 30-day public protest period to receive additional public input opened today and will close August 25, 2025.

Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) Available for Public Review and Comment Until June 23, 2025

The BLM is soliciting public comments on its environmental analysis of a proposed competitive oil and gas lease sale involving one parcel totaling 80 acres in Calhoun County, Michigan. The BLM is seeking public input during the comment period ending Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11:59pm MST.

To submit a public comment, go to the Documents section on the left-hand column of this page or click the green “Participate Now” button. All comments must be received by the close of the public comment period. There will be no exceptions for late comments, please plan accordingly. Please note that the most useful public scoping comments are substantive comments that do one or more of the following:

1.   Identify issues relevant to the proposed action;

2.   Offer reasonable alternatives;

3.   Propose the extent to which those issues and alternatives should be analyzed; or

4.   Identify new technical or scientific information for the BLM to consider in the environmental analysis to be prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Comments which contain only opinions or preferences, or comments that are essentially identical to other comments will not be specifically addressed in the environmental review process. 

Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your public scoping comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
