BLM seeks input on proposed land exchange with State of New Mexico
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments for a proposed land exchange of up to 76,000 public acres each between the BLM and the New Mexico State Land Office.
As directed by the John D. Dingell. Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act in 2019, up to 76,000 acres of federal lands and minerals, managed by the BLM in New Mexico, could be exchanged for approximately 76,000 acres of state lands and minerals in Doña Ana, Grant and Luna counties.
The exchange would bring state mineral interests and valuable conservation and recreation land with revenue potential into federal management. The land that New Mexico would acquire could produce revenue for the state’s public schools and other public beneficiaries.
The environmental assessment is available for review on the BLM National NEPA Register. Comments can be submitted electronically through this site. Comments can also be mailed or hand-delivered to the BLM Las Cruces District Office, Attn: State Land Exchange, 1800 Marquess Street, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005. The comment period ends June 28, 2026.
For further information, contact the BLM Las Cruces District Office at 575-525-4300.
