Project Description

The primary purpose of the Lakeview RMP Amendment and accompanying environmental impact statement (EIS) is to address the provisions/issues contained within a 2010 Settlement Agreement.  These include the need to:
 
 1) Consider information from wilderness characteristics inventory updates;
 2) Consider a reasonable range of off-highway vehicle allocation/designation alternatives; and
 3) Consider how to address rangeland health issues and grazing permit relinquishment as components of a reasonable range of grazing management alternatives.
 
The planning process will result in a new decision that lays out how the BLM will manage resource values and uses to best meet present and future public needs within the planning area.

What's New

The Lakeview Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) initiated this RMP Amendment process in April 2010 with public scoping and tribal consultation. Scoping was completed and a Scoping Report was published in October 2012. However, in the fall of 2012, the Oregon State Director put the Lakeview RMP Amendment on hold pending completion of the Oregon Greater Sage-Grouse Resource Management Plan Amendment. That RMP Amendment was completed in November 2015. The BLM re-initiated the Lakeview RMP Amendment process in September 2018 and tribal consultation is on-going.

The BLM provided a 90-day public comment period on the Draft Lakeview RMP Amendment and Draft EIS. The comment period closed on September 5, 2024.

The Proposed Lakeview RMP Amendment and Final EIS are now available for 30-day protest period.

As of 1/16/2025, the Lakeview RMP Amendment and Record of Decision is available.
