The proposal is to relocate and/or construct facilities in the Orovada area to support Fire Suppression Preparedness. Location would be adjacent to Kunkel Rd. in Orovada. Current facilities, located in McDermitt, are at the extreme north end of the District and do not provide fast enough response time to many regionally important areas such as PPH/PGH habitats. Having a centrally located station would improve response time to these high value habitats when wildfires occur. The end-result is more fires controlled within the first 24 hours (during initial attack), fewer acres burned, lower severity fires and burn patterns. Ultimately, this would result in lower suppression costs and more effective use of public funds and firefighting resources.
Approximately 3-4 acres would be needed to enclose a crew barracks, an office, covered or enclosed engine bays, a shop, and associated infrastructure / utilities to include; water and sewer tie-in’s, power, concrete pads in front of shop and engine bays, concrete walkways, paved or graveled drive and parking, lighting, landscaping and perimeter fencing. An additional 1-2 acres would be reserved for future expansion of facilities if needed (ie. helipad, additional bays, etc). Project would likely be phased over 3 years. Heavy equipment would likely need to be used for site preparation. Utilities are nearby for tie in.
