The Cottonwood Field Office is planning to complete emergency repairs of the Eagle Creek Road that provides public access through the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area to the Lower Salmon Special Recreation Management Area. Runoff from snow pack and rainfall caused a debris jam during the last week of May that has eroded Eagle Creek Road beginning at mile 10.2 that extends for a ½ mile segment. On June 1, 2011, the BLM Cottonwood Field Manager issued an emergency closure of the road that will be in effect until repairs can be completed. The work will be completed in one week beginning on June 20, 2011 and will include scrapping portions of the remaining road base into the damaged areas. This will result in lowering the current height of the road within the damaged areas. The footprint of work will be contained within the current road footprint. Immediate action is needed to repair the road, restore safe public use of the Eagle Creek Road and prevent further resource damage by pioneered routes being created around and through the damaged area. The repair will include best management practices as necessary to protect and conserve aquatic and riparian habitat, prevent erosion, conserve watershed resources, and avoid impacts to cultural sites.
