BLM Issues Decision Record and FONSI for Outback Project
The Prineville District BLM has signed a Decision Record to manage vegetation on approximately 5,200 acres within the La Pine Recreation Management Area, a 42,000 acre tract of forest land located within the La Pine Basin in southern Deschutes and northern Klamath Counties.  The City of La Pine is located approximately in the center of the project area.  Treatment units are located in selected areas from Fall River Estates and La Pine State Park on the north end, to areas east of Gilchrist/Crescent on the south end.  Actions will reduce fuel loading to mitigate high intensity wildfire as well as restore and maintain the health of lodgepole and ponderosa pine forests.

The EA and draft FONSI for this project were released for a 30-day public review and comment period, which ended July 13, 2018.  The BLM received nine comment letters in response.  Public comments are summarized and BLM responses are included in an appendix to the Decision Record.  Protest procedures for this forest management decision are outlined in the Decision Record.
