The Cascades Field Office has completed the Hole in the Road Timber Management Project Environmental Assessment (EA) and Final Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The Final FONSI was signed on January 8, 2018. The EA and Final FONSI can be found in the "Documents" section to the left. The EA analyzes one project area, where BLM proposes to harvest forest stands within the Cascades Field Office. The Hole int he Road project area is located on BLM-administered lands in Township 7 South, Range 3 East, Sections 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 26, and 27, W.M. in Clackamas County, Oregon, approximately 20 miles southeast of Molalla, Oregon.

The Cascades Field Office has signed a final Decision and Decision Rationale (DR) to implement the Hole in the Road Timber Sale, comprised of eleven units proposed under the EA for 231 acres of comerical thinning in forest stands 42 to 137 years old, located in Township 7 South, Range 3 East, Sections 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 26, and 27, W.M., Clackamas County. Of the 234 acres proposed, approximately 33 acres of 43 to 45 year old conifer stands will be commercially thinned within the Molalla River Segment B Suitable Recreational Wild and Scenic River corridor.
Other actions include but are not limited to, up to approximately 3 acres of road right-of-way clearing for up to 0.8 miles of new road construction, close and stabilize any newly constructed natural surface roads, renovate approximately 2.04 miles of existing road, and de-commission approximately 0.04 miles of renovated roads. One in-stream culvert will be replaced and eight cross-drain/ditch relief culverts will be installed.  Fuels treatment will be completed on approximately 25 acres which includes 49 machine piles within the units and on landings. The DR can be found in the "Documents" section to the left, under "Final Decision and Decision Rationale".

The decision described in the DR is a forest management decision and is subject to protest by the public. In accordance with Forest Management Regulations at 43 CFR 5003, protests of this decision may be made within 15 days of the publication of a notice of decision in a newspaper of general circulation.  For this project, the Notice of Sale will be published in the Molalla Pioneer newspaper on or around January 17, 2018.  To protest this decision a person must submit a written protest to John Huston, Cascades Field Manager, 1717 Fabry Rd. SE, Salem, Oregon 97306 by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on February 1, 2018.   The regulations do not authorize the acceptance of protests in any form other than a signed, written hard copy that is delivered to the physical address of the advertising BLM office.  A written protest electronically transmitted (e.g. email, facsimile, or social media) will not be accepted as a protest.
