Final EA for Oil and Gas Leasing PEA

Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Council on Environmental Quality regulations for implementing NEPA, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District (WD), Humboldt River Field Office has prepared a Final Environmental Assessment (EA) which analyzes potential impacts of a proposed Competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale scheduled for September 2014. Stipulations and mitigation measures developed from this analysis would be applied to future oil and gas exploration and development on these leases. The EA analyzes reasonably foreseeable development scenarios for exploration and development of the lease parcels, including using hydraulic fracturing methods.

The BLM, WD will offer eight nominated parcels for competitive leasing, which total approximately 15,831 acres. The eight nominated lease parcels are located in Buena Vista Valley, approximately four miles southeast of Unionville, in Pershing County, Nevada. Maps and a detailed list of the nominated parcels are available in the PEA.

Click on the Documents link (left sidebar) to download the Final EA, Decision Record (DR) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).  The DR and FONSI are at present unsigned; thus, there is not an appealable decision.  These documents will be signed after the proposed lease sale.

The response to the Protest to the Leasing Sale is now available in the documents section (left side bar).

The current EA references the 2005 Oil and Gas Leasing EA.  The 2005 EA is available in the Documents folder.  The 2005 EA is final and not subject to public comment nor protest.
