The site-specific EA analyzes potential impacts that could result from a Western Oil Exploration Company proposal to drill an exploration oil well on a valid existing lease on public lands in Newark Valley, about 40 miles west of Ely, Nevada. The BLM proposes to approve the APD submitted by Western Oil to drill the Scott Federal #25-1 well on federal mineral lease NVN-82639 in, T. 17 N., R. 56 E., Section 25, SE 1⁄4 NW 1⁄4 NW 1/4, MDM.  The Proposed Action would occur on BLM administered lands and BLM administered subsurface minerals.  Project implementation would include using existing access roads, constructing a well pad, and using industry standard techniques to drill for oil and gas with a single 10,000-ft. vertical exploration drill hole to search for potential oil and gas resources.
