Project Description
The Nine Mile Canyon Special Recreation Management Area (SRMA) has abundant cultural and recreational values that are important to protect and preserve.  The Nine Mile Canyon SRMA is currently managed under a 1995 plan that now inadequately manages resource use impacts on cultural resources.  The road through Nine Mile Canyon was paved in 2011 and has brought increased traffic to the area.  As a result, cultural sites are more easily accessible and there are new concerns about the management of cultural and recreational resources in Nine Mile Canyon.  This planning effort is to update the 1995 SRMA plan with a plan that focuses on the management of visitor-based recreation and the preservation and interpretation of cultural resources located in Nine Mile Canyon.
