How to get Involved
Public Meetings on the Draft EIS
Please click on the "Meetings" link on the left side of the screen to see the dates and locations of the public meetings on the Draft EIS.

Public Scoping

The first opportunity for public involvement in the EIS process was the scoping period. The public scoping period began with the publication of the Notice of Intent in the Federal Register on December 9, 2011, and was extended through March 23, 2012.

During scoping, the project team consulted with the public and other agencies to help refine the scope of the project and identify issues of concern to be addressed in the EIS. The BLM hosted 4 scoping meetings across the Northwest Colorado Sub-Region in late January and early February of 2012. Click the "Meetings" link on the left to see where and when these meetings were held.

After scoping was completed, the BLM and its consultants prepared a Scoping Report to summarize the issues and management concerns you and others provided. The Scoping Report for the Northwest Colorado Sub-region is now available on the Documents & Reports page of this Web site.

Draft EIS

The project team is currently working on development of the sub-region-specific EISs, including an EIS for the Northwest Colorado Sub-region. The BLM will announce the availability of the Draft EIS for this sub-region through the Federal Register when it is completed and ready to send out to the public for comment. This document will have a 90-day comment period that will give you an opportunity to review what the team has prepared and to comment on changes you would like to see. The EIS is expected to be released for public review sometime during the summer of 2013.

Final EIS

From the feedback received on the Draft EIS, the sub-region team will develop a Final EIS, which brings the project near the end of the process. Finally, a Record of Decision will be signed approving the land use plan amendments for the Northwest Colorado Sub-region, which will complete the process and incorporate the new planning decisions into the respective RMPs.

In order to be included in the Final EIS, all comments must be received by the BLM by the close of the Draft EIS review or within 15 days of the last public meetings, whichever is later.
