Timeline
The 90-day public comment period for the Draft Monument Management Plans (MMPs) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) concluded on November 15, 2018.  The interagency planning team is currently reviewing comments and preparing the Proposed MMPs and Final EIS for the Shash Jáa and Indian Creek Units of the Bears Ears National Monument. The BLM will notify the public of the availability of the Proposed MMPs and Final EIS through this website, a news release, and the Federal Register. The Federal Register notice will initiate the 30-day protest period and a concurrent 60-day Governor’s consistency review. To conclude the planning and NEPA process, the BLM and USFS will issue signed records of decision (ROD) and the Approved MMPs. The agencies plan to issue the Proposed MMPs and Final EIS followed by the Approved MMPs and RODs later this year (2019).
