The Elko District Office (EDO) has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the March 2017 Oil and Gas Lease Sale. The oil and gas lease sale is scheduled to take place on March 14, 2017.

The Elko District Office (EDO) encompasses about 12.4 million acres, of which approximately 7.2 million acres are public lands managed by the BLM.  The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering offering up to 86 parcels, comprising about 159,423 acres of land in northeastern Nevada within the area administered by the EDO, in a state-wide competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale to be held in March, 2017.   These offered parcels amount to approximately 0.7 percent of public lands in the EDO. Over 915,784.64 acres were nominated by industry for the March 2017 Oil and Gas Lease Sale. Of those 915,784.640 acres, BLM adjudicated (processed) 159,423.60. The BLM is offering approximately 17 percent of the publicly requested acres for March 2017 lease sale. The majority of the 756,361 adjudicated acres were removed from the March 2017 sale because they were within leased areas, within a Wilderness Study Area (WSA), or lands with no federal mineral estate.
