What's New

Butte Field Office Resource Management Plan and FEIS
This 2009 Approved RMP is the base land use plan for all lands managed by the Butte Field Office. It replaced the Headwaters RMP approved in 1984, as well as the Dillon Management Framework Plan approved in 1979, as these two previous plans have applied to lands managed by the Butte Field Office since reconfiguration of the field office boundaries in 1983. The Approved RMP adopts the management described in Alternative B as well as Management Common to All Alternatives and Management Common to Action Alternatives described in the Proposed RMP/Final EIS.

The purpose of the RMP is to provide a single, comprehensive land use plan to guide management of public lands administered by the Butte Field Office. The plan provides goals, objectives, allowable uses, and management direction to maintain, improve, or restore resource conditions and to provide for the long-term economic needs of local communities.

At the time the RMP was approved, the Butte Field Office administered about 307,309 surface acres of BLM land and a total of about 660,819 acres of federal subsurface mineral estate in western Montana. These lands are dispersed throughout a 7.2 million acre planning area in eight counties.
