Copies of the Notice of Oil and Gas Lease Sale can be viewed online by clicking on the "Documents" link on the left side of this webpage, as well as on the National Fluids Lease Sale System website, https://nflss.blm.gov/. The Notice of Sale can also be viewed in person on the first floor lobby at the BLM Eastern States Northeastern States District Office located at 626 E. Wisconsin Ave., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Under regulation 43 CFR 3120.1-3, an individual can protest the inclusion of a parcel listed in the sale notice. All protests must be received no later than 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time on June 14, 2023. Instructions for filing a protest to the lease sale parcels can be found within the sale notice.

Public Comment Period Closed

The public comment period closed on April 10, 2023.

Public Comment Period Now Open

The public comment period opens on March 10, 2023 and will close at 11:59 Mountain Time on Monday, April 10. If you would like to comment on the environmental assessment or unsigned finding of no significant impact (FONSI), please click on the 'Participate Now' link on the left side of the homepage.

Only substantive comments will be considered, and all comments must be submitted through ePlanning. Email and mailed comment letters will not be considered. A substantive comment provides new information about the Proposed Action, or presents other alternatives for analysis; identifies a different way to meet the need; points out a specific flaw in the analysis; suggests alternate methodologies and the reason(s) why they should be used; makes factual corrections, or identifies a different source of credible research which, if used in the analysis, could result in different effects.

Comments which are not considered substantive...

  • Comments which do not pertain to the Decision Area.
  • Feedback that is not relevant to the Purpose and Need, or Proposed Action Alternative.
  • Expressions of opinions without reasoning or rationale.
  • Submissions in favor or against the Proposed Action without justification or supporting data.
  • Input that takes the form of vague open-ended questions.

To the extent you submit exhibits or attachments to any submitted public comment, you must provide a summary of the attached documents, and explain why they are important for us to consider. If the submittal fails to include the requested summary, BLM may not consider any information in the exhibits or attachments during its decision-making process.

The legal description for the parcel is as follows:

EOI ES00002496 (Kalamazoo County, Michigan):

Michigan Meridian

T. 3 S., R. 9 W.,

sec. 21, W1/2W1/2SE.

(40 acres)

The proposed lease submitted by the nominator is subject to BLM conditions, stipulations, and/or terms. The proposed lease would provide the lessee exclusive rights to explore and develop oil and gas reserves on the lease but does not in itself authorize surface disturbing activities.

The proposed lease is being considered for sale in the June 2023 Competitive Online Oil and Gas Lease Sale; however, if the parcel is not included on the sale, or the sale is postponed, the parcel may be listed on a later sale date.
