Project Description

The Alabama and Mississippi Proposed Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) provides a framework for the future management direction and appropriate use of BLM-administered lands and mineral resources located in the states of Alabama and Mississippi. The document contains land use planning decisions to guide the BLM’s management of public lands and mineral resources administered by the Southeastern States District Office (SSDO). The RMP fulfills the land-use planning requirements of the Federal Land Policy Management Act (FLPMA).

The proposed RMP combines all BLM-administered lands in both Alabama and Mississippi under a single plan. However, in the approved RMPs, the decision was made for each state to be managed under its own separate RMP. The FEIS conducted to identify the environmental impacts within each state during the proposed RMP process still applies to the approved RMPs for each state under their respective sections within the FEIS.

What's New

Alabama and Mississippi RMP/FEIS

The Eastern States State Director signed the Approved Alabama Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on March 3rd, 2009. The Approved Mississippi RMP and FEIS was signed by the State Director on the same day.

Plan maintenance has been conducted on the plans on three (3) separate occasions and for different purposes:

September 28, 2020: Clarifying reversionary title provisions for lands returned to BLM ownership.
December 13, 2020: Describing Proposed Stipulations applicable to lease notices for specific parameters including prime and unique farmlands and floodplains.
August 9, 2022: Updating information pertaining to the acquisition of the Fowl River Tract in Mobile County, AL.
