Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) proposes to dispose, through a direct land sale of the surface estate, a 2.13-acre tract of land in Moffat County to the Moffat County Board of County Commissioners to resolve an on-going case of unauthorized use with the intent on transferring this property to the Brown’s Park School Alumni Association (Alumni Association).The school site is located at:
 
Sixth Principal Meridian, Moffat County, Colorado
T. 9 N., R. 102 W.,
Sec. 2, lot 36;
Sec. 3, lot 24.
 
This disposal of lands would serve important public objectives, which cannot be achieved prudently or feasibly on land other than public lands, and which outweigh other public objectives and values. Another purpose is to dispose of lands which are difficult and uneconomic to manage. 

This unauthorized use case was discovered during the 1990s. When the original structure, going by the name of the Beaver Creek School, was moved to the site in 1945, the land was federally owned and considered to be in the public domain. The BLM was not formed until 1946 and there was not a BLM office in Craig until the 1950s. This parcel is managed by the Little Snake Field Office (LSFO).

The sale would be completed under the authority of Sections 203 and 209 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLMPA) (43 U.S.C. 1713 and 1719) and the implementing regulations at 43 CFR 2710 and 2720.
