Project Description

The Project is located on split estate, where the surface estate is public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office and the mineral estate is owned by Utah Trust Lands Administration. Oakley Mountain Corporation dba Scrivanich Natural Stone (referred to as “Oakley”) is proposing to expand their existing quarry (Green Beetle Quarry) to a total of 2.81 acres (1.92 acres of pit expansion and 0.89 acres of the existing pallet/staging area) of BLM surface estate to continue to meet customer demand for quartzite landscaping stone. Oakley’s application is based on the Green Beetle Quarry Expansion Plan of Development, as amended (Oakley 2023). The Green Beetle Quarry has been in operation since 2006 under Utah Department of Oil, Gas, and Mining (UDOGM) permit S/003/072 and has included two additional pits, Pit 1 and Pit 2 (Map). Reclamation of Pit 1 is underway. Pit 2 is fully reclaimed.

What's New

BLM will use the NEPA public participation process to satisfy the public involvement requirements under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) (54 U.S.C. § 306108) and pursuant to 36 CFR 800.2(d)(3). The information about cultural resources within the area potential effect for this undertaking will assist the BLM in identifying and evaluating effects/impacts to such resources in the context of both NEPA and Section 106 of the NHPA
