Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ukiah Field Office is proposing to expand an established shaded fuel break on the lowest slopes of the Black Forest, following Soda Bay Road for approximately 1 linear mile. The project scope and location will align with the approved programmatic environmental assessment (pEA) Statewide Wildland Urban Interface Fuels Treatments (SWFT) DOI-BLM-CA-9000-2022-0001-EA. This project will take place on BLM-managed lands in Kelseyville, California, designated as the Black Forest Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) late Spring 2026. The Black Forest ACEC encompasses 247 acres of BLM-managed land situated on the northeast slope of Mt. Konocti and is in close proximity to the wildland-urban interface. The primary values protected by this designation include the rocky cliffs that support Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) habitat, the unique geological boulders found throughout the area, and the mid-elevation old-growth Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) forest.
