Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is proposing to authorize the United States Fish and Wildlife Service(USFWS) to collect Fender's blue butterflies (FBB), late stage larvae,  from BLM administered Fir Butte in the West Eugene Wetlands for translocation to the Beazell Memorial Forest, located northwest of Corvallis, for the purposes of establishing a new population of Fender's blue butterflies. The goals of this translocation are:
•	to release sufficient starting genetic material to maintain a viable population.
•	that released butterflies will reproduce within the habitat.
•	that offspring of released butterflies will survive to adulthood.
•	for butterflies to persist for 10 years without augmentation.
•	that the network will contribute to the delisting of Fender’s blue butterfly.
There would be no changes to public access within the Wetlands during any part of translocation implementation. Translocation would not require or result in ground disturbing activities.
