Project Name: Snyder Fire Emergency Stabilization and Burned Area Rehabilitation (ES&BAR)

PROPOSED ACTION SUMMARY

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is proposing to implement the Emergency Stabilization and Burned Area Rehabilitation (ES&BAR) treatments identified in the Snyder Fire ES&BAR Plans, prepared by an interagency Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team following the 2026 Snyder Fire. The Snyder Fire ignited on June 26, 2026, during a Red Flag Warning and burned across a mosaic of pinyon-juniper woodland, sagebrush shrubland, and riparian cottonwood gallery vegetation types on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) primarily within the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (MCNCA) and within the Grand Junction Field Office and Moab Field Office, as well as adjacent private land (See Table 1 below). 

The location for this project is within the boundary of the Snyder Fire. The Proposed Action evaluated in this EA consists of multiple ES and BAR treatment specifications identified in the Snyder Fire ES&BAR Plan, including but not limited to :

• aerial and drill seeding
• aerial herbicide application
• sagebrush plug and deep pole (cottonwood) planting
• invasive weed early detection and rapid response
• terrestrial and riparian monitoring, road and storm damage repair
• hazard warning signage, fence repair/replacement
• cadastral survey monument surveys,
• associated administrative, compliance, and implementation support.

These treatments are intended to reduce erosion and threats to human life and property, facilitate recovery of native vegetation in areas dominated by cheatgrass, and prevent establishment of noxious and invasive weeds. Additionally, 142 acres from the 2025 Westwater Fire have been added to the original project acres for aerial herbicide and aerial seeding in the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness.
