Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office (BLM) is proposing to gather and remove excess wild horses from within and outside the Lahontan Herd Management Area (HMA). The Lahontan HMA was designated for the management of wild horses under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act (WFRHBA) of 1971. 

The need for the action is to prevent undue or unnecessary degradation of the public lands associated with excess wild horses, and to restore a thriving natural ecological balance and multiple-use relationship on the public lands, consistent with the provisions of Section 1333 (b) of the WFRHBA.

What's New

The BLM Sierra Front Field Office has completed the Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact, and has issued the Decision Record for the Environmental Assessment.
