Project Description
What's New
Home The Taos Resource Management Plan (RMP), approved on May 24, 2012, will provide broad-scale direction for the management of public lands and resources administered by the Taos Field Office in northern New Mexico. Public lands subject to the Taos RMP comprise about 594,700 surface acres and 1.5 million acres of mineral estate within Colfax, Harding, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Taos, and Union counties.
The Record of Decision (ROD) and approved Taos RMP have been prepared in accordance with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 and the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The ROD affirms the decisions presented in the Proposed RMP/Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), released for a 30-day public protest period on December 2, 2011.
All proposed planning decisions protested by the public were appropriately reviewed and resolved by the BLM Director and his staff at the BLM Washington Office prior to the BLM’s decision to approve the Taos RMP. The Director’s Protest Resolution Report for the Taos Resource Management presents the protest items and how each are considered and resolved. The resolution process resulted in the revision of one planning decision in the approved RMP is described in the ROD. A discussion of other minor modifications made to the approved RMP subsequent to the release of the Proposed RMP/Final EIS is also provided in the ROD.
The BLM greatly appreciates all who contributed to the completion of the Taos RMP, particularly its cooperating agencies, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo, and Santa Fe County. The public’s extensive interest and involvement in this planning effort has ensured that the Taos RMP is of substantial quality and will provide for the continued use and enjoyment of public lands and resources by present and future generations.
