Project Description

The County of Socorro is requesting a direct land sale for a 10-acre parcel of land adjacent to an existing Socorro County Recreation & Public Purposes (R&PP) Patent (30-66-0141). The County is planning on constructing a detention pond on this adjacent parcel. In addition, a portion of the original R&PP patent would be part of the design and construction for the detention pond. Therefore, the reversionary interest on a 10-acre portion of the original R&PP patent is being considered as part of the direct land sale. The total direct land sale would be for 20 acres. The parcel is located approximately 10 miles south of the City of Socorro. Direct access is off Highway 380.

The NOI/NORA and planning criteria for the Socorro Direct Sale was published in the Federal Register July 23, 2026. The notice is linked here and included in this project documents page (2026-14887.pdf). Scoping for the planning criteria and realty action will be open from July 23, 2026 to September 8, 2026.
