Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Wildland Fire Service propose to use multiple methods to reduce hazardous fuels and restore vegetation along the western base of the Santa Rosa Range in Humboldt County, Nevada. The project has a total footprint of no more than 111,600 acres and would occur over the span of 10 years. The BLM proposes to conduct Invasive Plants and Noxious Weeds Management through Ground/Broadcast Seeding, Mechanical Treatments, Targeted Grazing, and Construction of Temporary Fences/Water Haul Sites. The proposed project would treat areas with high invasive annual grass cover to create a more fire resilient landscape and restore perennial plant communities and wildlife habitat.

What's New

April 24, 2026 - BLM-NV Humboldt River Field Office in cooperation with the US Wildland Fire Service has issued a Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA), Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and Decision Record (DR) for the Santa Rosa Integrated Fuels Reduction project. The decision approves multiple methods to reduce hazardous fuels, implement strategic fuel breaks to increase fire fighter safety, and restore wildlife habitat along the western base of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Humboldt County, Nevada. This begins the 30-day appeal period ending on May 24, 2026.
