Project Description

What's New

Cottonwood RMP (December 2009)
The Idaho BLM Director signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Approved Cottonwood Resource Management Plan (ARMP) on December 21, 2009. These documents can be accessed via the documents and reports tab.  This plan guides future management of BLM-administered lands in the Cottonwood Field Office within Latah, Clearwater, Nez Perce, Lewis, Idaho, and Adams counties of Idaho. The ROD serves as BLM's final decision for the land-use planning decisions as described in this ARMP.

The BLM received a total of five protest letters on the proposed RMP. The BLM‘s policy and process for resolving proposed RMP protests is outlined on its national Web site, at http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/planning/planning_overview/protest_resolution/filinginstructions.html.  Protests received and partially granted on the Cottonwood RMP identified the need to perform additional analysis with regard to domestic sheep grazing on four allotments which overlap bighorn sheep habitat. In granting portions of these protests, the decisions originally identified in the proposed resource management plan and final environmental impact statement that specifically address domestic sheep grazing on these four allotments are withheld pending completion of additional analysis through a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The additional analysis will apply solely to the four allotments identified in the protests where domestic sheep grazing areas overlap bighorn sheep habitat. The BLM denied all other protests. Its responses to the protest issues are available on the Internet at http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/planning/planning_overview/protest_resolution/protestreports.html.

BLM would like to thank you for your continued interest and involvement in the management of the public lands within the Cottonwood Field Office area.
