Project Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rock Springs Field Office is proposing an amendment to the 2024 Rock Springs Resource Management Plan.  The amendment responds to Executive Order 14154 and Secretarial Order 3418, both titled "Unleashing American Energy", which direct federal agencies to reassess policies that may unnecessarily restrict access to domestic energy and mineral resources.  The BLM determined that existing mineral restrictions and special management designations within the Rock Springs Field Office require re-evaluation under these orders.

The planning area contains twelve Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC), five Special Recreation Management Areas (SRMA), a National Historic Trails corridor, and thirteen Wilderness Study Areas (WSA).  The BLM will reexamine these designations to determine whether special management is still warranted and where development may be appropriate.  The amendment will also consider advances in technology, evolving industry interest, and updated mineral potential data.

What's New

The BLM published a Notice of Intent to Amend the 2024 Rock Springs Resource Management Plan in the Federal Register on October 2, 2025. The public scoping period begins October 2, 2025. A public meeting has been scheduled for December 3, 2025 from 3-6 pm at the Sweetwater Events Complex at 3320 Yellowstone Road, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The BLM will accept public comments through December 18th, 2025. Please click on the green "Participate Now" button to submit comments.
