The final Environmental Assessment (EA), along with the accompanying appendices, Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and Decision Record for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) Land Sale, are available. To view the final documents, please click the "documents" tab on the left of this page to view the final documents.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Barstow Field Office announce the availability of these documents, which analyze the potential impacts of the proposed land sale. The EA was prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (42 U.S.C. § 4321 et seq) and was made available for public review and comment for 45 days between August 27, 2024 and October 15, 2024, via the BLM’s ePlanning website at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2033900/510. Public comments ranged from general support of the land sale to substantive feedback. All substantive comments, along with the BLM’s corresponding responses, have been submitted to the commenters and included in Appendix I.


August 27, 2024 - Public Comment Period on Environmental Assessment

Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Barstow Field Office is initiating a public comment period and looking for input on the Environmental Assessment (EA) (NEPA# DOI-BLM-CA-D080-2024-0012-EA) for the proposed Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) Land Sale. 

How to Comment:

At this time, the BLM is requesting your comments on the EA to identify issues or resource sensitivities. Your comments are welcome and important to establish the level and scope of analysis is accurate. Your comments will be made available for use by the BLM. Comments are due within 45 days and must be postmarked by October 15, 2024. Comments may be submitted the following ways:

  • Electronically using the comment function on the BLM ePlanning project website: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2033900/510 Click on “Participate now” and follow the prompts to submit a comment.
  • Mailed to the BLM Barstow Field Office: ATTN: Tim McCain, Realty Specialist, 2601 Barstow Road, Barstow, California 92311. Mailed comments must be postmarked by October 15, 2024.
  • You can also email your comments to [email protected].

The BLM will consider any substantive comments and include as appropriate.
